Senior Boys Football

The senior boys football team this year played a tough season. It was full of ups and downs, but Javaun C. told us that in general, “we had a very good team, but when it came to game time, we weren’t quite mentally there”. While the boys had not perhaps captured the results they had been training for, the team’s spirit was constantly present throughout the season. Luke K. told us that some of their favourite moments of the season was “just having good times on the bus”, often the most important part of team bonding. Both Luke and Javaun agreed that their last game of the season against KCI was their strongest. “We had a lot of good plays, nice tackles”, said Javaun, Luke adding that “it was a close game”. Both Luke and Javaun are excited for next year, their senior year. “We’re going to be gaining some good players [next year]”, Luke told us, hoping for a strong team in his grade 12 year. We hope so too! Congrats on a great season, senior boys!

Junior Boys Football

This year, the junior boys football team “had an alright season with an even number of wins and losses,” according to Connor S. While they had a tough start to the season, Connor proudly stated that “after every game we played, defense stepped their game up and the offensive line powered through” as well. Connor and Jesse C. both agreed that their best game was against Waterloo Oxford, with an impressive score of 29-0. Connor was happy to reveal that “there was a lot more team spirit this year” and the grade nines “did very well and improved greatly.” Connor hopes that the team will show a great deal of leadership towards the grade nines next year, and he hopes that they make us all proud by going to the playoffs -- and hopefully winning. Glenview wishes the grade nines well next year, and the grade tens success on the senior team! Good luck boys!

Junior Boys Volleyball

“We had a rough start and didn’t win many games, but we have improved” said Yatharth P., member of the Junior Boys Volleyball team. They stated that they have had a season in which they were learning constantly. They felt that as the season went on they learned more about one another. “Our team work was game changing”, says Hagop T., member of the team. The boys stated that their most well played game was against GCI, saying that “it was a close game, we were all on our toes”. Although at some points the boys felt as if they weren’t giving it their all, they believe that they had a “growing season”. Ms. Gilmore, coach of the the team, stated that “They are a very hard working group of guys, all of them are super athletic”. She also said that there were always learning opportunities due to the fact that there were many grade 9’s. “I am very excited to see where they will be next year, they are very talented and have lots of potential.” They showed a lot of character and determination throughout the whole season. Ms. Gilmore is looking forward to continual improvement and more success in the following years. They all look forward to next year!

Junior Girls Basketball

“Competitive. Enthusiastic. Winners.” These are the words that were used to describe Glenview’s Junior Girl’s Basketball Team, by fellow B-baller, Didimo O. The girls had a pleasant and rewarding season as they made their passes and dunked hoops. These ballers worked long and hard for their success by having daily practices to improve their skills. Proof of their hardships, dedication and improvements was demonstrated through their victorious game against Southwood, which entered them into the playoffs. “That was when we realized, how hard we’ve worked and how far we’ve gotten. I’m so proud.”  All in all, this season was adventurous and lead to new friends and experiences. Unfortunately, the team lost by five points against GCI in the playoffs, deterring their efforts on the path to championships. “Yes, I think we could have won that. I know we will do better next season though. But that’s ok. We are still winners.” Well there you go panthers, another reason to be proud of being a part of this talented school. Congrats on a successful season ladies and best of luck to the next generation in 2016!

Cross Country

“Another great year” describes Alicia Van, a grade 11 long distance runner on the GPSS Cross Country team. This year, our team represented Glenview in multiple meets including the “run for the toad” which only selected schools got to participate in. Although there were no top ten winners this season, all of our runners got their personal bests at WCSSAA! The team practised hard, with warm ups, core cool downs and Churchill runs. Before every race, our Panthers cheered each other on at the starting lines, contributing to our #pantherpride. Congratulations on a successful XC season panthers!
